Visual Arts Building, Studios, and Technology Resources

The Visual Art Building of the Kennesaw campus has 32,000-square-feet of state-of-the-art studio and classroom space. Each description of the programs of art and design study lists equipment available for students in the classroom studios. Students have common access to an open Mac computer lab and a student work area which has a small light studio for photographing artwork. The building's central atrium hallways are illuminated with natural light and displays student artwork.

  • Studio Access
    Apply for 24/7 Access for Visual Arts Students needing access to the Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Sculpture and Ceramic Studios only.

    Important note when applying for access: KSU Human Resources will notify you via email with a link for permission to submit to a background check.

    Computer Lab Access
    Visual Arts Students needing Access to the computers labs (207, 209 and 224) must apply for and be approved for 24/7 Access.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: only students who have been accepted into the Graphic Communication, Animation, Illustration, or Sequential Art concentration can apply. The only exception is if they are a double major (Studio Arts and Computers Arts).

  • AVAILABILITY: the Mac lab has been converted into a classroom space and is not a dedicated open studio space for students at this time. Limited hours for access to the Mac lab will be posted in the near future.

  • EQUIPMENT

    iMac Computers: Each of the 20 computers has 16GB of RAM and an SD card reader. Any camcorder connections should be USB ready. (Firewire ports are not available.) There are a limited supply of headphones are available for checkout and use within the room. 
    Scanners: There are 10 letter-size Epson V500 flatbed scanners and one Epson V700 scanner. All have back-lighting adapters for scanning slides, negatives, and transparencies. An Epson high-quality 12 x 18 in. scanner is available by request. Wacom Cintiqs: There are two 22HD Cintiqs available for art students. Wacom pens may be checked-out at the reception desk. Silhouette Cameo: This plotter cutter can make intricate stencil cuts in paper and other thin materials from your black/white (not grayscale) images up to 11.5 sq. in.

    LIBRARY

    Video DVDs on art-related topics and the latest issues of some of the most popular visual arts and design magazines are also available for use within the room. 

    SOFTWARE

    In addition to Macintosh versions of Microsoft Office, the lab computers are loaded with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Flash, Dreamweaver) as well as 3D imaging software such as Maya and Mudbox.

  • Lab users may print to other laser-compatible papers through the right-side bypass tray. IMPORTANT: Please make sure the Paper Feed and Printer Features > Paper Type are applied for your paper type and thickness before you send the job.

  • Epson Stylus Pro 4800, 4880 Ink-based Printers
    (Cash Only)

    • "Ink cover charge" per file on 4800 and 4880: $2.50
      (Any size print up to 17 x 22 in.)
    • Covers the computer file handling time and ink. If you bring your own paper/substrate media, this is the only charge for sending your file to print.
    • These are professional fine art printers. They are not recommended for printing double-sided graphic design. There are no refunds for mis-registered prints.
    • Please pay with exact change.

    Epson Stylus Pro 9900 wide-format Ink-based Printer
    (Cash Only)

    • "Ink cover charge" per file on 9900: $5.00
      (Any size print up to 44 in. wide x 48 in. long) $2 for each additional linear foot.
    • Covers the computer file handling time and ink. If you bring your own paper/substrate media, this is the only charge for sending your file to print.
    • "Ganging" multiple images is encouraged unless the image dimension exceeds 22 inches in the smallest dimension.
    • This is a professional fine art printer.  It is not recommended for printing double-sided graphic design. There are no refunds for mis-registered prints.
