 Summer Acting and Musical Theatre Intensives: 

  • 11 a.m. “The Ultimate Musical Theatre Warm-up” with Amanda Wansa Morgan and Timothy Ellis. Join KSU Musical Theatre professors Morgan and Ellis as they take you through a vocal warm-up and a dance warm-up for musical theatre performance styles!

     2 p.m. “The Ultimate Actors Warm-Up” with Emily Kitchens. Join KSU Acting professor Kitchens as she takes you through the ultimate warm up to enable an actor to prepare to perform with their voice, body, and mind!

  • 11 a.m. “Learn a Musical Theatre Song with Dance Break – I Can Do That!” with Timothy Ellis. Learn an entire musical theatre performance song from top to bottom along with a fun dance break.   • 11 a.m. “Make the Cut: Audition Tips for Musical Theatre Performers” with Amanda Wansa Morgan and Timothy Ellis. Learn the tips and tricks of the trade from working professional artists who also teach at KSU. You will be taken through all of the elements of auditioning, from the types of auditions out there to how to find material. Includes an honest take on what kinds of auditions are truly successful.

    2 p.m. “Make the Cut: Audition Tips for Actors” with Emily Kitchens. Learn the tips and tricks of the trade from working professional artist and professor Emily Kitchens. Prof. Kitchens will take you through all of the elements of auditioning for theatre and film through self-taping! Explore auditions for a variety of genres (classical, contemporary, etc.) as well as formats (college programs vs. professional gigs).

  • 11 a.m. “Audition Resources for Musical Theatre and Acting Auditions” with Amanda Wansa Morgan and Emily Kitchens. Ever wondered where to start on the journey of looking for repertoire for auditions? Trying to find that perfect monologue or song? Fear not! Prof. Kitchens will help you find a monologue and Prof. Morgan will help you find a song. These KSU faculty will give you a walkthrough of valuable Internet resources as well as advice on how to find the material that’s uniquely right for you! Also included is a Resource Guide with Links and a breakdown of the “Actors Rehearsal Kit” – essential items a working actor should have readily available to perform at their best!

    2 p.m. “Panel with the Pros” with Emily Kitchens. KSU acting Prof. Kitchens interviews professional theatre artists on life in the theatre, the state of the industry, being an artist, and walking through this world with a creative soul. The explosive guest list includes: Lenne Klingamen (Broadway & film actor); Alejandro Rodriguez (actor & producer); Vichet Chum (actor & playwright); Tobie Windham (actor & producer); Erin Washington (actor & producer); and Taylor Bailey (Producer).

  • 11 a.m. “Panel with KSU Theatre Faculty, Students, and Alumni” moderated by Amanda Wansa Morgan and Timothy Ellis. Learn more about training in the Department of Theatre & Performance Studies at KSU from those who went through it! Featuring KSU TPS alumni who are working or have worked professionally, including L’oréal Roache (2020), Courtney McCullar (2020), Joseph Pendergrast (2017), Brandy Bell (2019), and current TPS Senior Alex Harding (2021). Moderated by KSU faculty Amanda Wansa Morgan and Timothy Ellis. Includes information about college programs in general as well as the unique qualities of the B.A. in Theatre and Performance Studies at Kennesaw State University.

    2 p.m. “Panel on College Musical Theatre Programs” moderated by Amanda Wansa Morgan and Timothy Ellis. Join us for an interview panel with some of the best musical theatre educators from around the United States on college musical theatre programs: facts, audition tips, and thoughts on how to approach choosing the best college program for you! The panel features professors Stacy Alley (University of Alabama); Jonathan Flom (Slippery Rock University); and Scott Susong (Illinois Wesleyan University). All members of the panel also serve as members of the Musical Theatre Educators Alliance.
