KSU Dance Festival Concerts

Adjudicated Evening Concerts and Student Showcase Guidelines

The 2023 KSU Dance Festival will feature two adjudicated Evening Concerts on Saturday, February 4th at 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 5th at 5:00 p.m. There will also be a Student Showcase after lunch on Sunday, February 5th.

The evening concerts will be reviewed by a panel of adjudicators. Written feedback from the adjudicators will be provided to each performance group following the festival. These performances are for festival attendees only; however, each group will be given two tickets per concert to use for 2 outside guests of their choice. There will be no additional tickets available.

Evening, Adjudicated Concert Guidelines:
  1. All performers must be current high school-age students.
  2. All performers must be registered for the KSU Dance Festival by December 16, 2022.
  3. There is a limit of 25 performers per organization.
  4. All performers must be available for one technical rehearsal. Tech rehearsals will be scheduled in advance on the evenings of February 2-3, and at the end of the day on Saturday, February 4. Each group will be assigned a 20-minute tech rehearsal time slot.
  5. Each dance must be a minimum of 5 minutes, and no more than 10 minutes in length.
  6. Only one work can be submitted from each organization (i.e. high school or studio).
  7. Choreography may be by a faculty member, guest artist, student, or a restaging or repertory work.
  8. There can be no hanging or rigging of scenic elements. Any scenery or props must be set and struck by the company performers within 1 minute of the start and end of the work.
  9. Students should plan to bow after their performance.
  10. There is a $100 adjudication fee to perform in the concert and each group will be given a link to download a video of their work.
  11. Once registered, participants will receive a tech package with schedule, lighting work sheet, and theater details.
Student Showcase Guidelines:
  1. All performers must be current high school-age students.
  2. All performers must be registered for the KSU Dance Festival by December 16, 2022.
  3. Each organization may submit one work for presentation during the Student Showcase.
  4. Student works MUST be choreographed by students.
  5. Student works must be 3-5 minutes in length.
  6. No hanging or rigging of scenery is permitted for the Student Showcase, any scenery or props must be carried in and out of the studio by the performers.
  7. The Student Showcase will take place at the Stilwell Theater. There will be no theatrical lighting or curtains. Students should plan to bow after their performance. 
  8. There will be no spacing or technical rehearsal prior to the informal concert.
  9. There will not be a marley floor.
