Dance Intensive Summer

Hello, Dancers!  

The KSU Summer Dance Virtual Intensive schedule is below. We are excited to give you the opportunity to experience technical and artistic growth in an environment that fosters creativity and learning. The links will be posted daily, beginning on June 1, 2020.

  • 11 a.m. “Intermediate/Advanced Ballet Barre” with McCree O’Kelley. Designed for high school students with previous experience, this virtual workshop focuses on building strength and developing musicality. The workshop is designed to be performed in a small space.

    2 p.m. “Contemporary Modern Dance Class” with Lisa K. Lock. Designed to be executed in small spaces, this virtual class includes a warm-up focusing on strengthening and stretching, some exercises to increase technical skills, and a longer movement phrase to dance, be a movement artist, and to have fun.

     

  • 11 a.m. “Intermediate Ballet Barre” with McCree O’Kelley. Designed for high school students with previous experience, this virtual workshop focuses on placement and improving flexibility.

    2:00 p.m. “Yoga for Dancers” with Andrea Knowlton. This class targets specific areas to increase mobility and alignment in dance technique. We will gently open the hips and increase extension through proper stretch of the feet, lower and upper legs. Extended balances will be offered as we channel our breathing to gain stability. This practice also includes spine mobility, arm strengthening, and abdominal strengthening. 

  • 11 a.m. “Intermediate/Advanced Ballet Barre” with McCree O’Kelley. Designed for high school students with previous experience, this virtual workshop focuses on building strength and developing musicality. The workshop is designed to be performed in a small space.

    2 p.m. “Contemporary Class” with Andrea Knowlton. This class focuses on healthy and efficient movement patterning as well as breath and full body connectivity. An extended warm-up will lead dancers into phrasework which is based on the concepts of release technique but formulated for the at-home-environment. Dancers will learn new floorwork patterns as we play between the horizontal and vertical planes.
