A Message from the Chair of the Department of Dance

We’re Georgia’s largest undergraduate Dance Department, and we’re home to Atlanta’s premiere dance theater. Founded by Dr. Ivan Pulinkala, dean of the College of the Arts, the Department of Dance offers a Bachelor of Arts in Dance, unique professional partnerships, extensive co-curricular activities, and exciting performance and choreographic opportunities.

The KSU Dance Company is one of the few companies in the history of the American College Dance Association to receive five national invitations to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. This distinction, along with nine regional gala selections, position the Department of Dance at KSU as a leading program among peer institutions in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

Our nationally and internationally recognized faculty fosters innovation in teaching and learning, combining the best attributes of a liberal arts education with superb dance training. Our dance studios and facilities are on the cutting-edge, providing students with all the resources they need to become artists, scholars and practitioners of dance. These are unprecedented times, so we work with respect and creativity to confront new challenges. To prepare our students, we honor tradition, while at the same time pushing the limits of scholarship, studio practice, choreography and performance for the 21st century. Our graduates have the necessary skills to become the next generation of artists, scholars and bold leaders in the field of dance, and beyond.

Our Department encourages students to take advantage of the many opportunities available on our beautiful campus, and within the vast Atlanta arts community. We have forged unique partnerships with Terminus Modern Ballet Theater and created the KSU Choreographic Residency, which provide students with opportunities to engage in the professional practice of dance.  Our Education Abroad program offers students with the opportunity to work with the internationally acclaimed Batsheva Dance Company, in Israel. This collaboration imparts students with life-altering experiences, broadening their understanding of dance in a global context.

We invite you to be a part of the Department of Dance at KSU.  If you’re looking for a rigorous and progressive dance curriculum, a student-centered environment complemented by professional experience, and high-caliber and enthralling performances, then we’re the home for you. Come to where imagination moves!
