Visual Arts Building and Studios

The School of Art and Design has facilities available to help students progress through the program, including the Open Mac Lab and Visual Arts Resource Center. If you have questions or comments about the equipment in the building studios and facilities, feel free to contact our staff.

Open Mac Computer Lab and VARC (VA 224)

AVAILABILITY: The Open Mac Computer Lab is open to all students at KSU and is supported by UITS and the School of Art and Design.

PRINTING: The room has both color and black/white laser Ricoh printing capability as well as wide-format fine art digital inkjet printing.

Epson Stylus Pro 4800, 4880 Ink-based Printers (Cash Only)

"Ink cover charge" per file on 4800 and 4880: $2.50 (Any size print up to 17 x 22 in. )
Covers the computer file handling time and ink. If you bring your own paper/substrate media, this is the only charge for sending your file to print.

Covers the computer file handling time and ink. If you bring your own paper/substrate media, this is the only charge for sending your file to print.
If your printing project requires printing on any roll paper besides Enhanced Matte Photo Roll paper, you MUST make an appointment to print. NO EXCEPTIONS!

44 in. Enhanced Matte Paper Roll: $1.50 per linear ft.
44 in. Photo-Luster and Photo-Semi-Matte Paper Roll: $2.00 per linear ft.
More paper choices may be available upon request from KSU employees. Students should ask their professors to have additional media ordered.

Also visit the Sturgis Library Information Commons Area and Burruss Building Lab in BB475. These computer labs also have iMacs available for student use.

EQUIPMENT:
iMac Computers: Each computer has 12GB of RAM, an SD card reader, and an optical DVD/CD reader/writing drive. Any camcorder connections should be USB ready. (Firewire ports are not available.) Headphones are available for checkout and use within the room.
Scanners: There are letter-size flatbed scanners connected to 13 of the 21 computers available for student use. 5 of them have back-lighting adapters for scanning slides, negatives, and transparencies.
Cutters and Light Boxes (VA223): Both horizontal and vertical mat cutters are available in the adjacent room, VA223.
Copystand and Photography Studio with Roll-down Backdrop (VA223): The copy stand is used for photographing two-dimensional works 18x24 in. or smaller. Please make appointments for use of photography studio by E-mailing smcdona4@kennesaw.edu.

LIBRARY: Video DVDs on art-related topics and the latest issues of some of the most popular visual arts and design magazines are also available for use within the room.

SOFTWARE: In addition to Macintosh versions of Microsoft Office, the lab computers are loaded with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Flash, Dreamweaver) as well as 3D imaging software such as Maya and Mudbox.

NEW OPEN STUDENT STUDIO/LOUNGE: VA223 is soon to be converted to an open student space. Please make appointments for use of photography studio in adjacent VA223 by E-Mailing smcdona4@kennesaw.edu.
