Visual Arts Building, Studios, and Technology Resources

The Visual Art Building of the Kennesaw campus has 32,000-square-feet of state-of-the-art studio and classroom space. Each description of the programs of art and design study lists equipment available for students in the classroom studios. Students have common access to an open Mac computer lab and a student work area which has a small light studio for photographing artwork. The building's central atrium hallways are illuminated with natural light and displays student artwork.

Open/Print 24/7 Access Form
    1. Print out application form and fill out completely.  There is no need for a faculty sponsor to sign it.
    2. Scan this fully-completed form and e-mail to or bring to office 223-B. 
      If no one is in this office please slide under the door.  Do not leave forms at the Main Office!
    3. After this application has been approved (1-2 business days) instructions will be e-mailed to you about how to submit and pay for a background check.  The cost for the background check is $22.00 (Cash Only). 
    4. Applicants will be notified of whether or not they have passed the background check 5-10 days after submitting the form. 

Visitors to campus: We recommend that you make an appointment so we can possibly give you a tour of the studios.

Open Mac Computer Lab (VA 224)

AVAILABILITY: The Open Mac Computer Lab is open to all students at KSU and is supported by UITS and the School of Art and Design. The lab houses equipment for student printing and reference materials including video DVDs and books. Student assistants are trained to help students with peripheral equipment, printing, and some basic functionality of the various Adobe Suite programs available on each computer.


    iMac Computers: Each of the 20 computers has 16GB of RAM and an SD card reader. Any camcorder connections should be USB ready. (Firewire ports are not available.) There are a limited supply of headphones are available for checkout and use within the room. 
    Scanners: There are 10 letter-size Epson V500 flatbed scanners and one Epson V700 scanner. All have back-lighting adapters for scanning slides, negatives, and transparencies. An Epson high-quality 12 x 18 in. scanner is available by request.
    Wacom Cintiqs: There are two 22HD Cintiqs available for art students.  Wacom pens may be checked-out at the reception desk.
    Silhouette Cameo: This plotter cutter can make intricate stencil cuts in paper and other thin materials from your black/white (not grayscale) images up to 11.5 sq. in.


    Video DVDs on art-related topics and the latest issues of some of the most popular visual arts and design magazines are also available for use within the room. 


    In addition to Macintosh versions of Microsoft Office, the lab computers are loaded with the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, After Effects, Flash, Dreamweaver) as well as 3D imaging software such as Maya and Mudbox.

    • These are professional fine art printers. They are not recommended for printing double-sided graphic design. There are no refunds for mis-registered prints.

Student Workroom

VA223 is an open student work/study space available when the VA224 Mac Lab is open only.

  • Cutters and Light Boxes are available for checkout in VA224.
  • Cameras are available for temporary use in VA Building only (1-hour limit) for KSU students. Checkout in VA224.
  • Both horizontal and vertical mat cutters are available in the adjacent room, VA223. 
  • All work areas must be cleaned-up immediately after use.

Copywork Photography Studio with Backdrop (VA223): 

Currently-enrolled students can get help photographing their artwork if any of the following conditions are met:

  • Artwork is 3-dimensional (includes graphic design mock-ups, ceramics, and sculpture)
  • Artwork media is of a glossy reflective nature
  • Artwork is already framed behind reflective glass

Students needing advice on developing their portfolio should make an appointment to speak to a School of Art and Design faculty advisor through Email or a telephone call.  Other specifics about the entrance and upper-level portfolios are given on the Portfolio/Admissions web page.
