A Message from Rebecca Makus
The Department of Theatre and Performance Studies cultivates the theatre-makers of the future. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, our distinctive undergraduate BA theatre and performance studies program examines the rich variety of theatrical and performance forms. Recognizing that the young theatre-makers who enter our program care deeply about the world around them, we support a wide range of study including musical theatre, acting, storytelling, design, undergraduate research, management, performance of literature, performance art, the development of new work, and hands-on theatrical production. Inherent within our program is a strong commitment to student development and success.
We nurture students to be scholar-artists. Our students speak to the world around
them using research and socially relevant performance. Student experiences may include:
interning at a professional theatre or performance venue, presenting at a national
storytelling conference, helping develop a new play that is being presented internationally,
creating original work for our department season, or building professional connections
through our extensive networks. Our location in the metro Atlanta area ensures dynamic
partnerships that offer real-world experiences for our students.
Our faculty and staff are active scholar-artists and maintain close relationships with professional organizations in the region, nationally, and internationally. From Atlanta stages to venues across the globe, the work of TPS faculty, staff, and graduates have a broad impact across our industry.
