Art Intensive

The KSU Summer Art Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for high school students interested in the visual arts. Students will explore a variety of media such as ceramics, mixed media, drawing, software and internet applications, technology, bookmaking, and printmaking with KSU faculty and students. The intensive is designed to help students further develop their skills and creativity, and strengthen their portfolios. A pin-up show at the end of the week will highlight student work. The School of Art & Design also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive.

The intensive is open to rising 9th – 12th grade students.

This program is limited to 20 participants so please register early.

The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch in the nationally recognized KSU Dining Commons Monday-Friday.

Dance Intensive

The KSU Summer Dance Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for high school students who want the opportunity to experience technical and artistic growth in an environment that fosters creativity and learning. Students will study with dance professors at KSU, and experience a variety of dance technique and theoretical courses that are an integral part of dance education at this university. Students will take classes in modern, ballet, African and jazz technique, as well as experience theory classes in dance history and kinesiology. Faculty will set choreographic repertory that will be performed by the students in a concert at the end of the intensive. The Department of Dance at KSU also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive.

Music Intensive

The KSU Summer Music Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential programs in band/orchestra, classical guitar, jazz guitar, opera and piano for high school students who want the opportunity to experience musical and artistic growth in an environment that fosters creativity and learning. Students will participate in a variety of ensembles - from full string, wind and jazz ensembles, to chamber ensembles, small groups and solo performance – and will receive individual instruction/coaching from our exceptional faculty and current School of Music Students. The week culminates in a performance that showcases the student’s work. The School of Music at KSU also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive. The intensive is open to rising 9th – 12th grade students.

Band/Orchestra

Students perform in a string ensemble or wind ensemble, and full orchestra or jazz ensemble. Each day has dedicated time for chamber music with a faculty coach.

KSU Opera Experience

Come experience opera at KSU!

New for 2015, this program provides serious high school students the opportunity to explore the techniques of classical vocal performance from the perspective of the singing actor. The exceptional faculty of the KSU Voice and Opera programs will provide a unique experience that will include individual and group lessons, yoga for singers, stage deportment and dance classes, staging rehearsals, lyric diction, private song coachings, and a series of master classes on subjects related to the field. The workshop culminates with a presentation in which students perform the material they have been working on in class.

Audition Requirement : On the first Sunday of the intensive, students should be prepared to perform 2 memorized classical pieces; one should be in a foreign language, if possible, and should also prepare a short age-appropriate monologue. An accompanist will be provided.

This is a terrific opportunity for serious high school pianists looking to improve their skills. Students will receive individual instruction, work in small groups, and take part in full camp offerings. Apply early to ensure a space in this limited-enrollment camp.

Musical Theatre Intensive

The KSU Summer Musical Theatre Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for high school students who are serious about honing the necessary skills to perform in musical theatre on the collegiate level. Acting, dance and vocal skills workshops will be led by KSU faculty and local professionals. The weeklong sessions will culminate in a musical theatre presentation performed by the workshop participants. This program is limited to 25 participants, so please register early!

The KSU Summer Acting Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for students who are dedicated to the art of acting. Students in this intensive will collaborate with like-minded peers and be taught by the accomplished professional theatre artists of KSU’s award-winning performance faculty. Master classes in acting, movement, voice & speech and stage combat will culminate in a final performance. This program is limited to 20 participants, so please register early!
