Welcome to the College of the Arts’ Summer Arts Intensive! These one-week, non-residential programs are perfect for young artists who are serious about honing their craft and learning more about what it is like to pursue college-level work in the arts. Acting Intensive

Intensive Dates: June 6-10, 2016

The KSU Summer Acting Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for students who want to explore the art of acting. Come be inspired by KSU’s award-winning faculty and alumni. Come collaborate with like-minded young artists from all over the region. Classes in acting, movement, voice and IMPROVISATION will center on the development of an original work presented in a final performance for friends and family. This program is limited to 20 participants, so please register early!

The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch in the nationally recognized KSU Dining Commons Monday-Friday.

Art Intensive

Intensive Dates: June 6-10, 2016

The KSU Summer Art Intensive is open to serious high school students interested in the visual arts. Students will explore a variety of media such as ceramics, mixed media, drawing, software and digital applications, technology, bookmaking, and printmaking with KSU faculty and students. The intensive is designed to help students further develop their skills and creativity, and strengthen their portfolios. A pin-up show at the end of the week will highlight student work. The School of Art & Design also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive.

The cost of the intensive is only $295 and includes lunch in the nationally recognized KSU Dining Commons Monday-Friday.

Dance Intensive

The KSU Summer Dance Intensive offers a one-week, non-residential program for high school students who want the opportunity to experience technical and artistic growth in an environment that fosters creativity and learning. Students will study with dance professors at KSU, and experience a variety of dance technique and theoretical courses that are an integral part of dance education at this university. Students will take classes in modern, ballet, African and jazz technique, as well as experience theory classes in dance history and kinesiology. Faculty will set choreographic repertory that will be performed by the students in a concert at the end of the intensive. The Department of Dance at KSU also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive.

Music Intensive

Intensive Dates: June 6-10, 2016

The KSU Summer Music Intensive is intended for serious high school students who want the opportunity to experience musical and artistic growth in an environment that fosters creativity and learning. Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of individual and ensemble sessions with our exceptional faculty and current School of Music students. The week culminates in a performance that showcases the student’s work. The School of Music at KSU also offers incentive scholarships every year to outstanding students who attend the intensive. Band and orchestra students will participate in a variety of ensembles, including full string, wind and jazz ensembles, chamber music and other small groups, as well as solo performance opportunities. Students will also receive instruction in music theory, improvisation, composition, will receive individual instruction/coaching from our exceptional faculty and current School of Music Students.

Dedicated high school guitarists will benefit from the opportunity to participate in small groups, play in the guitar ensemble, receive individual instruction and take part in the full intensive offerings. Enrollment is limited in this area, so apply early.

Dedicated high school guitarists will benefit from the opportunity to participate in jazz combos and larger jazz ensembles, play in the jazz guitar ensemble, receive individual instruction and take part in the full intensive offerings. Enrollment is limited in this area, so apply early.

Voice

Work with our incredible voice faculty at KSU!

The KSU Vocal Intensive is a five-day workshop tailored toward young singers who wish to develop their vocal skills as a soloist in a collegiate setting. Participants of the Vocal Intensive will be highly engaged throughout the week and will participate in activities and classes such as:

  • Private lessons with KSU voice faculty
  • Yoga for singers
  • Stage movement and acting techniques for singers
  • Audition techniques
  • Vocal anatomy and vocal health
  • Masterclasses with KSU voice faculty

The intensive will culminate in a finalé recital open to friends and family followed by a light reception with KSU voice faculty.

Audition Requirement: On the first Sunday of the intensive, students should be prepared to perform 2 memorized classical pieces; one should be in a foreign language, if possible, and should also prepare a short age-appropriate monologue. An accompanist will be provided.

Piano

This is a terrific opportunity for serious classical pianists looking to improve their skills. Students will receive individual instruction, work in small groups, and take part in full camp offerings. Apply early to ensure a space in this limited-enrollment camp.

Musical Theatre Intensive

2016 Musical Theatre Intensive: The Cutting Edge of Musical Theatre!

New works in musical theatre are happening everywhere! From the rap revolution of Hamilton to the outcries of social change through Fun Home and all of the exciting movie adaptations and juke-box musicals in between like Once, Rock of Ages, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Come explore the hottest new hits of Broadway and the musical theatre industry as well as create NEW musical theatre songs of your own! We will tell the stories of today through a variety of vocal styles, dance, and composition, all while honing the techniques that industry professionals and training programs are looking for.

The work of the week will culminate in a performance for friends, family, and public in which all participants will have a place to share and shine.
