Welcome to the Department of Dance at Kennesaw State University. We are honored to be the largest collegiate dance program in the state of Georgia and a leader in undergraduate dance education in the Southeastern United States. Please join us as we celebrate 10 years of artistic and scholarly excellence, and mark the completion of a decade in our institutional history. We are grateful to the generations of students who have made KSU Dance their home, the faculty and staff who have served our department with excellence, the KSU administration and campus community that has supported our vision, and all our Atlanta area partners who have helped us build a program of excellence.
The Department of Dance at KSU offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with concentrations in ballet and modern, as well as a 15-hour dance minor. Through a variety of academic and practical experiences, we prepare our students physically and intellectually for the professional world of dance. Regionally and nationally accomplished faculty and guest artists provide our students with a high standard of education in our state-of-the-art dance facilities at Chastain Pointe. Experiences in theatre production and management, as well as in costume and scenic construction, prepare our students as well-rounded practitioners in the field of dance.
Our collaborations and partnerships with the regions premiere dance companies and leading art venues serve as a way of giving our students professional experiences off campus. These partnerships distinguish our program in the region and provide our students with opportunities to actively engage with professional artists in the community. Our partnerships with Atlanta Ballet, gloATL, Dance Canvas, the Cobb Energy Centre and the Rialto Center for the Arts, give KSU dance students opportunities to perform, choreograph, teach and study at leading professional venues. KSU Dance majors are highly sought after by local artists in the Atlanta dance community, and are part of almost every dance organization in the metro-Atlanta area.
The KSU Dance Company is one of the few companies in the history of the American College Dance Festival to have four successive national selections to perform at the Kennedy Center. This distinction, along with seven regional gala selections in our ten-year history, rank the Department of Dance at KSU as a leading dance program among peer institutions in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina.
The Atlanta area provides a rich variety of dance and cultural opportunities, and it is our goal to actively serve and be a part of our community by providing our students with pedagogical opportunities both on campus and beyond. The 2015-16 class of more than 100 dance majors is set to enrich the metro-Atlanta area with public performances, educational outreach, scholarly presentations and innovative artistry. We invite you to visit our department to learn more about our diverse curriculum and performance season. Thank you for your interest in the Department of Dance at Kennesaw State University.
